Forged Steel Cover Reveal

Today, we have a fun change to the regular schedule. My fellow spec-fic writer H. A. Titus, who I met last year at the amazing Realm Makers conference, has her first novel coming out this week.

And I get to be part of the cover reveal.

Cheers all around.

I have a question to ask you, but first, the important stuff.

Drumroll…

Book Description

Downton. Coffee shop. 2 AM.

One minute, Josh is firing off sarcastic remarks at his best friend Marc—the next, they’re running from shape-shifters. Apparently, even best friends don’t share all their secrets.

Now Josh is in danger. He can see the monsters among the humans.

When Marc is kidnapped, Josh finds himself pulled into the schemes of the fae courts, and throws in his lot with Marc’s allies: the lovely Larae, a human named David, and the fighter, Eliaster. But what began as a rescue mission becomes something much more involved…

And all Josh wants to do is get out before it’s too late.

Sounds cool, huh? I’ll admit, I haven’t read any urban fantasy, but it’s one area of spec-fic I definitely want to explore, and I’m looking forward to reading Forged Steel.

Here’s the lowdown on some other important info:

Forged Steel is a new adult urban fantasy by H. A. Titus, releasing on July 17th. It will be available in print (Amazon) and ebook (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iBooks, and Scribd). If you’d like a chance to win free books, ask questions, and hear trivia about the writing/publishing of Forged Steel, there will be a Facebook event party on July 17th from 7-9 pm eastern time on the author’s page, H. A. Titus Author.

The first five chapters are available for preview on Wattpad.

I’ve been to a Facebook party before and they’re fun, so you should check it out and get your hands on a copy of Forged Steel, which I’ll be reviewing in the next month or so.

And now for my question.

Do You Judge a Book By It’s Cover?

I love the cover of Forged Steel. It has the grungy, rough-around-the-edges look and coloring that I associate with urban fantasy, and the presence of the character helps draw me into the world hinted at within the pages.

Plus, the text, with its sharp edges insinuates something more sinister lurking beyond the bounds of the ordinary world.

Book covers are fascinating. To me, they’re like a window to the story, giving us a sneak peek of what to expect when we plunge in.

But should we always judge a book by it’s cover? If it’s a book that hasn’t been recommended by someone, I often do judge it based on that first appearance, as well as on how intriguing the back cover description and the opening page are.

Sad to say, I think some really good books sink beyond the thought or care of the literary world because a less-than-appealing cover put readers off.

What’s your opinion on book covers? What is your favorite and least favorite book cover? I would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I’m actually surprised I like this cover. Usually I hate covers that have real people on the front, but this one really works well. Excited to read it! I haven’t read much urban fantasy, either.

And I totally judge books by their covers. There are so many great books out there with poor covers, but what drives me crazy almost more is when there’s an incredible cover and the book is just…meh.

    1. That’s an interesting point, Nadine, about good covers and bad books. I hadn’t thought of that, but it makes sense. It’s amazing how much we expect the cover to reflect the quality of the story, so when we see a great one we automatically think the book will be as good as the cover, and vice versa. Funny how that works.
