I’m not a film critic or movie expert so please don’t take my reviews as any golden standard.
This is just a movie-lover’s (usually humble) opinion on what he’s seen.
My goal is to share my thoughts on speculative fiction movies and get a discussion started on why they were so amazing—or not. Plus, if I see a great movie, I want to share it with the world.
(Okay, that’s a delusion, but humor me. I have a fragile psyche.)
What to expect
My focus is science fiction and fantasy, including superhero movies such as Ant Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Eventually, I might go back and review movies I’ve already watched, but until further notice, every review will be of movies that come out in a given year. So this year, movies from 2015.
I’ll try my best to avoid major spoilers. This might not always be possible, and if that’s the case, I’ll warn you if a review contains spoilers.
I’ll give an overview, listing what I liked and didn’t like, as well as thoughts on the plot, setting, and characters.
Every review will come with the movie’s content rating (e.g. PG-13) as well as how accurate that rating was. As part of this, I’ll also mention anything that might disturb viewers—mainly graphic violence, sexual content, and swearing.
Of course, every review is my personal opinion and everyone draws the line in different places, but I’ll try my best to be objective.
Rating System
I judge movies on a scale of 1-10, divided into four sections.
- 1-3 – Should never have been made into a movie
- 4-6 – Hints of promise
- 7-8 – Building toward greatness
- 9-10 – Awesome of mind-blowing proportions
Hopefully you find my reviews useful if you haven’t seen the movie and thought-provoking if you have.
