What’s your favorite dystopian novel?
Perhaps one of The Hunger Games books. Or the classic, 1984. Maybe it’s Fahrenheit 451.
This week in the Are You Living In series, we’re going to plumb the depths of what it would look like to live in a dystopian world. This one strikes closer to home than say fantasy, which we’ll get to next week.
In many ways, dystopian fiction offers a glimpse into the possible future, bringing the action—and consequences—into the stark realization that some of the themes dealt with in dystopian stories aren’t far-fetched.
To answer the question, a list of 30 indications you’ve taken up residence in a dystopian world.

My favorite Dystopian would be Divergent, followed by The Giver.
And yes to (almost) all these. I love dystopias. That’s why I write them!
Cool. I haven’t read either of those.
Have you read the Out of Time Series by Nadine Brandes? It’s YA dystopian fiction. Excellent books. 🙂
My favorite dystopian novel is definitely The Giver by Lois Lowry (the movie was surprisingly good, too). As I think about it, it’s probably my favorite because it actually doesn’t follow most of these rules – all of which tend to annoy me. No kick-butt females, no love triangles, no kissing, no angsty teens who apparently actually do know better than every adult around, and life actually seems fairly good on the surface… no hidden rebellions are brewing, even…
For the most part I’ve been disappointed in the dystopian novels coming out lately (though I appreciate that they’ve made the genre more widely known and appreciated). I really need to read Nadine Brandes’ series, I keep hearing very good things about it.
That sounds like quite the standout. I’ve heard several people say how much they like The Giver. *considers adding it to already heaping TBR pile*
I’m not too widely read in the dystopian realm, though I immensely enjoyed Hunger Games (the last book was rather meh). And yes! Nadine’s Out of Time Series is amazing. 😀
Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an extremely long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyway, just wanted to say wonderful blog!
Looking forward to reading more. Great post. Thanks Again. Awesome.
