Today, I’m going to play the evil master of fate and not do a Fantasy Friday post.
Mwahahahaha
Be consoled. It’s not that terrible. Here’s a piece of Turkish Delight to calm you down. Really, what I’m doing instead is a fun shift from what I usually post.
The cover reveal for the debut novel of a friend of mine.
I met Amy at a writer’s conference last year. During a zombie Nerf war. If you think that sounds epic, you’re right. Over thirty kids and adults running around several rooms and hallways of a university building, madly firing Nerf darts.
But I’m getting off topic.
The book in question is Rebirth. Let the drums beat, the trumpets sound. Behold, the cover!
Pretty sweet, I’d say. Gives you a feel of what to expect in the story while offering tantalizing details to draw you in. What’s the story about, you ask?
Back Cover Copy:
Liz Brantley has a gift she wants to return.
Able to see and fight demonic forces, she has spent her life alone, battling the minions of hell bent on her destruction, running from the God who gave her this curse. The demon Markus, drawn to her abilities, unleashes havoc on her hometown and pulls Liz further into the throes of battle.
She’s desperate for a normal life.
When she meets a mysterious man who seems unaware of the mystical realm that haunts her, the life she’s always wanted flits within reach. But her slice of normal slips from her grasp when an old flame, Ryland Vaughn, reappears with secrets of his own. Secrets that will alter her destiny.
Torn between two worlds, Liz is caught in an ancient war between good and evil.
And she isn’t sure which side to choose.

Love this. Brimming with conflict. Ripe with intrigue. Laced with probing questions. Burning with the potential for compelling character arcs.

Here’s a little bit about Amy.
Amy Brock McNew doesn’t just write speculative fiction, she lives and breathes it. Exploring the strange, the supernatural, and the wonderfully weird, Amy pours her guts onto the pages she writes, honestly and brutally revealing herself in the process. Nothing is off-limits. Her favorite question is “what if?” and she believes fiction can be truer than our sheltered and controlled realities.

“Be consoled.” XD I love how the girl on the cover looks like Amy.
Haha, yeah. Didn’t want to freak anyone out. 😉
You’re right! I didn’t realize that, but it really does look like Amy. 😮
I’m a sucker for cool speculative fiction covers, especially since I began designing my own using GIMP 2-3 years ago and realized that it takes quite a bit of skill and strategy to design a curiosity-inducing cover. My first thoughts on REBIRTH: “Ooh! Sword! I like sword.” Then: “Sweet glowy effect.” It sounds like there’s an intriguing story to go along with the cover. The promise of epic internal conflict is always an adventure-starter. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting, Yaasha. I agree that the cover and story are cool, and I also agree that spec-fic covers, if done right, are awesome.
LOVE this cover. I’m so super excited for Amy and this publishing journey she’s on!!!!!
Definitely a fun place to be on the journey. Can’t wait until I’m at that point.
Thanks for stopping by, Deanna. 🙂
