Thank you for coming. 😀
*races around handing out Turkish delight and goblets of fruit punch*
I can hardly believe it, but I’ve been blogging for a year. 179 posts. Over 500 comments. 7,676 views. And plenty of long hours at the keyboard. It’s been crazy, challenging, and fun.
Here are a few highlights…
Most popular posts:
- Spec-fic genres getting together for dinner
- The dark side of fiction
- How to speak geek—fantasy version
- The Time That Was Not—Part 1
- The problem with Doctor Who
I’d like to say THANK YOU! to everyone who’s taken the time to read, comment, share on social media, and tell me you enjoy my posts. Knowing I’ve been able to provide entertainment and mental stimulation through what I write is a blessing.
You guys are the best, and I’m truly grateful for your presence and interaction. It makes all the effort worthwhile.
Speaking of gratitude, what better way to show that than with a giveaway? (release the clouds of confetti)
That’s right—this is a party in the style of hobbits. The one celebrating (yours truly) provides the gifts to the attendees.
Other than the few stories I’ve shared here, I don’t have anything to give you. But I have awesome writing friends, and a handful of them graciously agreed to contribute to my giveaway so I would actually have something to give away. LOL
Here’s the list of books and their respective authors:
- Bellanok: The Reluctant Savior and Bellanok: An Urgent Quest by Ralene Burke (ebooks)
- I’d Punch a Lion in the Face for You by Ben Wolf (hard copy)
- Darby Shaw Chronicles Box Set (books 1-3) by Liberty Speidel (ebook & audiobook)
- A New Threat by Aaron DeMott (choice between hard copy and ebook)
- Secrets Kept by Jennette Mbewe (signed paperback)
- Curio by Evangeline Denmark (hard copy)
Pretty sweet, huh? Click on the links to see descriptions of the books on Amazon.
Another Party
Speaking of parties and prizes, fellow blogger and fantasy author Jennette Mbewe is holding a giveaway, too. Popular today, aren’t they? Must be the fact that it’s a leap day. 😉
You should head over and check out her birthday bash post.
Q&A
I have two questions for you. Answering one of them (though I wouldn’t mind if you answered both…LOL) will give you a point in the giveaway, so pay heed.
- What was your favorite post from this past year?
- What would you like to see more of in the future—author interviews, funny posts, thoughtful posts, posts related to my writing, more stories, guest posts?
By the way, that “a” stands for announcements, because I have one quick thing to say before I let you loose on the giveaway. I’ve been at this for a year, and though I enjoy it, there’s this little problem called having enough time.
Before you freak out, don’t worry. This isn’t my retirement speech. I’m going to continue blogging, but in the upcoming months I may have to reduce the number of times I post per week. Partly so I can keep up with life, partly so I can formulate good posts. And mainly so I can give more attention to my stories.
I don’t know how it will work out yet, so stay tuned for details. In the meantime, have another Turkish delight and enter the giveaway.
Details
- It runs for two weeks
- There will be three winners—first place gets choice of books by any two of the authors, second place gets choice of books from two of the remaining four authors, and third place gets whatever happens to be left
- I’ll announce the winners two weeks from today, on March 14
- I’d be much obliged if you share the giveaway on social media
May the odds be ever in your favor.

I can’t pick just one favorite post. I suppose my favorite type of post is the stories.
Picking favorites is hard for me, too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Caunedhel.
I don’t have a “favorite post” so much as the one I remember most because it first drew my attention to your blog: Celebrate Hobbit Day. You’ve done many other fun fan-centric posts since then that I’ve enjoyed a lot, so I don’t really have a favorite! 😀
Thanks, Teddi. I remember you mentioning that on your site, which is ironic to me because at the time, I didn’t think it was one of my better posts. LOL
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying what I’m doing. 🙂
Well, I’ve only been following you for few months so I don’t think I have a full idea of your posts. But I especially enjoyed The Time That Was Not. And I tend to like the posts that can start a discussion – like cliches that drive one crazy, etc.
Just fyi, I don’t think the “follow twitter” link in the rafflecopter works. Or maybe it’s just me since I already follow you (confirmed via the twitter link on the right bar of the blog).
Hmmmm…not sure about the follow link, but you could be right.
Great to hear you liked The Time That Was Not! 😀 And posts that start discussion… *makes mental note*
Favorite post: The dark side of fiction. It really intrigued me and hit fiction on a deeper level. 🙂
Thanks, Karisa. Glad it impacted you. I was really pleased with how that post turned out. 🙂
I’m new, sent here by your friends and fellow author Jennette Mbewe. I love posts of all kinds, so it’s quite hard to choose. I do enjoy funny posts and there truly aren’t enough of those in the world. It’d be nice to see some of those (I can’t truly say MORE, since I don’t know exactly how many you tend to post). I apologize for my completely useless answer. Thank you for a great giveaway and congratulations for a year of successful blogging.
Hi, Michelle. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
No worries, that’s a great answer. Good luck on the giveaway, and thank you. It’s been a challenging but rewarding journey.
I love your “How to Speak Geek — Fantasy Version” post. It defines so eloquently phases us geeks just throw out there assuming everyone will know.
YES! That’s one of my favorites, too. 😀
Thanks for dropping by, Lisa.
My favorite post was one of your early ones: Reepicheep the Heretic and Eustace the Believer? It was the first post of yours where I was like “he can write” 😀
LOLOLOLOL…Whaddya know? I actually can write. 😉
My favorite posts so far were the Speak Geek series. I enjoyed seeing which popular one liners made the cut.
I like the funny posts, and would love to see more. I’m not opposed to author interviews but there are so many blogs that do noting but interview authors.
I appreciate that you’ve made place where I can come to laugh about being geeky without feeling that I’m being laughed at for being geeky.
Thanks for a year of cool posts. I look forward to many more.
Yeah, I had fun coming up with the quotes for the Speak Geek posts. 🙂
Good point on the interviews. I’ll definitely keep that in mind, and funny posts…YES! I love writing those, so that shouldn’t be hard.
I’m really glad to hear that, Cathrine. Being a geek is awesome, right? Fellow geeks unite!
You’re welcome, and I’ll do my best to continue to post entertaining stuff. 😉
I enjoyed the “How to speak Geek” posts.
Cool. Thanks for stopping by, Adam. 🙂
Congrats!! My favorite post is probably The Code of Villains but all of them are awesome. You’re a brilliant writer man!
Thanks, Kaci. I appreciate it. 🙂
Ooohhh, The Code of Villains. That one was fun to write.
I really liked the most recent one 🙂 Ten Fantasy books to read before you die!
That’s great, Sierra. When I came up with the idea I wasn’t wild about it, but I’m glad you (and apparently lots of other people) enjoyed it. 😀
I enjoy all your humorous geeky posts, especially the ones like “If the Spec-fic Genres Got Together for Dinner.” 😀
Great, because I love writing those. LOL
Yeah, that post was one of my favorites. 😀
Congrats on your blogaversary! Pretty impressive stats for one year (though I’ve only got my blog to gauge it off of). 😉
I think my fave this far is the Called to Speak (dark fiction) post, since it’s one of the first I read on your blog, but I love all the fandom stuff too –it’s nice to “talk” to likeminded fan in the comments. 🙂
P.S. Zekkaina on rafflecopter and signed up for your newsletter with the email I used to comment with (different from rafflecopter email).
Thanks, Jen. 🙂
I agree…the Called to Speak post was one of my better ones. And yes! Always fun to talk about fandom stuff.
Sounds good. Thanks for signing up. 😀
Hi, I hopped back over to this post and I saw I was one of the three winners… WHOOOO! I’m looking forward to hearing from you…
Yep, Lisa, you won first place. I’ll be getting in touch soon. 🙂
Thanks for participating and congrats on winning. 😀
